How sendcheck.eu works

We want you to see within a minute what a transfer really costs, whatever the advertising says. Here we explain how the calculator works, where its limits are, and how we make money.

The method: fee plus exchange-rate markup

Most comparisons look only at the fee. That falls short, because many providers waive the fee and instead make money on a worse exchange rate than the mid-market rate. Our calculator adds both together into the real total cost:

Total cost = fee + (amount after fee × gap between the provider’s rate and the mid-market rate)

This follows the same core principle as the World Bank’s Remittance Prices Worldwide index, the internationally recognised standard for comparing transfer costs. The result also shows what would arrive if there were no markup at all.

What the calculator can’t do

It doesn’t know a provider’s current offer for your exact route. You enter what you were shown, and we measure it against the reference rate. Exchange rates move several times a day, so the calculator is not a substitute for a final check with the provider before you confirm.

Where the numbers come from

The mid-market rate comes from a public, free, daily-updated rate feed. You can fetch it live with one click or enter your own, for instance from the European Central Bank or another source you trust. The request goes straight from your browser to the rate provider, not through our server.

The figures in the provider list come from publicly available information about fees and typical exchange-rate markups. They are snapshots, not live data, and are dated. We review them regularly.

Quality assurance

The calculation logic is a separate, self-contained program checked with automated test cases, including edge cases such as a provider rate that happens to beat the mid-market rate, or an obvious data-entry mistake in the direction of the rate.

Regulatory position

sendcheck.eu compares and links out, but never receives money, never forwards it, and has no influence whatsoever over the payment flow. Under the explanations given by Germany’s BaFin on the Payment Services Supervision Act (ZAG), that means we don’t operate a licensable payment service. This is not legal advice; we will review it again if our business model changes.

How we are funded

The calculator is free and carries no ad banners. If you complete a transfer with a provider through a link labelled as an affiliate link, we receive a commission. This costs you nothing extra.

Independence and ranking

Whether a transfer looks cheap or expensive depends only on your entries and the method above. Commissions have no influence on that. We sort the provider list strictly by the lowest total cost for the stated example. No provider can buy a better position.

Privacy

The calculator runs entirely in your browser. We don’t transmit or store your entries, and we use no cookies or analytics tools. The one exception is the live-rate request you trigger yourself. Details are in our privacy policy.
