What your transfer really costs

Providers advertise a "0 fee" and hide the real cost in the exchange rate. Enter what you were offered and see the real total cost, and what actually arrives.

Benchmark: the mid-market rate

The mid-market rate is the rate with no markup at all, the one banks use among themselves. Fetch it live or enter it yourself.

Your entries stay in your browser. Only clicking "Get live mid-market rate" sends a request.

What actually saves you money

Three levers make the biggest difference, whichever provider you end up choosing.

Always compare total cost, never just the fee

"No fee" almost never means free. The markup then sits in the exchange rate, and it’s often pricier than an upfront fee. That’s exactly what the calculator above shows.

Bank transfer instead of cash pickup, when possible

Cash pickup locations cost providers more, and that’s usually passed on as a bigger exchange-rate markup. If the money is going to a bank account anyway, a bank transfer is almost always cheaper.

Send larger amounts less often

Flat fees matter less, percentage-wise, on larger amounts. Two transfers of 250 EUR each usually cost more than one of 500 EUR.

Three corridors worth a look

Migrants sent about 8.5 billion euros home from Germany in 2025, the Bundesbank estimates — up roughly 3% on the year before.

Morocco (MAD)

Cash pickup is common and popular in Morocco, but it’s often the pricier option. If the recipient has a bank account, it’s worth comparing.

Poland (PLN)

Poland is one of the largest recipient countries from Germany. For bank transfers, the gap between providers is especially wide.

Brazil (BRL)

With the Pix instant-payment system, money often lands in a Brazilian bank account within seconds, if the provider supports it.

Frequently asked questions

Why isn’t the fee alone enough to compare?

Because many providers shift the real cost into the exchange rate. A provider with no fee but a rate 3% worse than the market is pricier than one charging a 5 EUR fee at a rate close to the mid-market rate. Only the sum of both shows the real cost.

What exactly is the mid-market rate?

The mid-market rate (also called the reference or interbank rate) is the rate banks use to trade currencies among themselves, with no markup for retail customers added. It’s the fairest benchmark, and the same one the World Bank uses for its cost index.

Where does the live rate come from, and is it safe?

From a public, free rate feed updated daily. The request goes straight from your browser to that service, not through our server, and contains none of your entries: it only fetches a general euro rate table. It is only ever sent when you click the button.

Does sendcheck.eu need a licence from a financial regulator?

No. We never receive money, never forward it, and have no influence over the payment flow. Under German supervisory rules (BaFin’s guidance on the Payment Services Supervision Act), that means we don’t operate a licensable payment service. This is not legal advice; we will review it again if our business model changes.

Is cash pickup really more expensive?

Not always, but often. Providers with a large cash pickup network tend to pass on the higher running costs as a bigger exchange-rate markup. Check both options with the calculator above if your recipient also has a bank account.

Why is the calculator free?

If you complete a transfer through a link labelled as an affiliate link, we receive a commission from the provider. Your result and the order of the provider list don’t depend on that.

What happens to what I type in?

Nothing. The calculation runs entirely in your browser. The amount, fee and rate are never sent to us and never stored. We use no cookies and no analytics tools.
